We pulled out at 11:05am. Right on time! Planning to go less than 100 miles today, even though we are crossing the bridge into Superior, Wisconsin. I decided that we should take Hwy 13 to our destination of Bayfield, WS, based on the Atlas. It looked like a waterfront drive a good portion of the way. It's not! There are too many trees to see much more than an occasional glimpse of Lake Superior. Disappointing. But a pretty drive most of the way. Lots of farms & cattle along the way. Not much else. A couple of tiny towns.

We arrived about 3pm & settled for a campground 3 miles north of town. Good thing as it is the only one we found. $30 a night for full hook-ups so we are staying only 2 nights. We have a wonderful view of the lake. I don't think we will be here long enough to put the Paddleski in. Besides, it's a bit intimidating!

Did you know that Lake Superior contains half the water in the Great Lakes? It's three quadrillion (3,000,000,000,000,000) gallons would cover all of Canada, the United States, Mexico, and South America with one foot of water! Amazing...The lake partially freezes every winter & has completely frozen several times in recent history. Its length is 350 miles, width 160 miles, average depth 489 feet, maximum depth 1,335 feet! There is 2,726 miles of shoreline including islands & the average water temperature is 40 degrees.

While Lake Superior does not experience ocean tides, its water level can rise & fall up to one foot. Huge waves have been blamed for most of the lake's 350 shipwrecks. Today the sun was out, the temperature fluctuated from mid 70's to low 80's, & the lake was calm & beautiful. Let's hope it stays that way as tomorrow we are booked on a 55 mile Grand Tour of all of the Apostle Islands.
