We did our grocery shopping in the morning - its always fun looking around other countries supermarkets.

Then made our way to the boat yards at Silsden. Our boat, Helen's Drum even had an Australian flag flying for us! Stowed everything on board and had the run down on how everything worked. Then we were off, departing just after 2pm.

It was a tad scary to begin with but we soon got the hang of it.

We didn't get very far before the first swing gate came up whereupon we had to moor the boat to the bollards on the bank and I got off with the trusty key to unlock the padlock and push open the gate. Most of the gates are on farmer's property to allow them to move livestock from one side of the canal to the other. I certainly got my exercise! We didn't get very far in the first 2 hours (moving at walking pace for the most part) we tied up at about 5pm and settled down with a wine/beer and cheese.
