We decided to explore the CR 586 road off the end of our campground today. The road starts off straight up. We put the Ford in 4 wheel and headed up the road to see what lies ahead of us. It took us about 4/10ths of a mile before we were getting the truck muddy. Pretty soon we were at the top where we had to make a decision to go left or right. This area is called Fossil Ridge. Not knowing what we were going to see, we headed right.

What a pretty area, even with the smoke from the Arizona fire hanging in the distance. The road was good until we started running into muddy areas from the run off of all the snow in the area. We had to remove a couple of small trees, go around boulders and travel under leaning trees. Our trip on the main trial of 586 came to an end at a nice meadow, as extremely muddy roads kept us from going any further. We will have to try again later in the season.

We went back to the y in the road and took the left road. This took us up on Five Mile Rd. It was straight up and had a different terrain. This road runs along the ridge above our campground and parallels the river. The road dead ends, but it is the start of the hiking trail down to the main road. We had three hours of fun exploring off road. It was a good day!
