|El Camino - Day 27
Maximum elevation = 648m, minimum and finishing elevation = 305m. 2 - 15 degrees. Sunny.
A bit of fruit in our bellies and we headed out into a clear, crisp day. Today we walked on tree-lined pathways most of the day. Through small villages of stone, farmland, forest and eucalyptus plantations. Cuckoo, cuckoo - yes, ever-present. The terrain undulating but downhill overall.
We stopped for breakfast at Palas de Rei. Bacon and eggs - what else on a Saturday morning?
Then onwards to Melide for lunch about 15km away. We had a short drink stop half way in Cornixa. We sat in a field with the Cafe on one side and forest on the other. The familiar cuckoo, cuckoo keeping us entertained. In trying to spot the cuckoo, we saw a pair of spotted woodpeckers frolicking in the trees. But no cuckoo.
Then to Melide. Not the prettiest town but renowned for its pulpo Gallego (octopus). We went to Exequiel (a pulperia) - recommended by S3 - and enjoyed a pulpo and vino lunch.
M suggested walking another 12km to Ribadiso de Baixo. In our pulpo and vino stupor, we agreed and enjoyed a fairly fast paced walk with a break at Boente. S2 and I fortunately singing the praises of magic cream and squat stretches for keeping our pains away.
Ribadiso is small so just the usual dinner at the bar for the evening.
