We got ready after breakfast and drove north into Arcata to the First Baptist Church. We were warmly greeted by a couple who had originated in Spruce Grove and Carval Corner outside Edmonton. He was in the wood industry and had been transferred down here 50 years ago for three years and was still here. The Church is near the Humboldt State University and during term time about half their congregation is made up of students who attend there. They said between classes being over and members on vacation, the attendance was only a third of what they regularly see. There were about 100 out, so it was the best attended service we have been at since we left home.
We drove down to the campus which is very attractive and is part of the California State University system.
We went on from there and rove round part of Arcata that we had missed yesterday. There were some nice old home and buildings in it.
We returned to the campground and had lunch then I emptied the sewage tanks ready for leaving tomorrow. We then sat and read and dozed - much as we do on a Sunday afternoon at home!
After dinner we packed up some of the things we won't need till we get to our next stop, Manchester which we should reachtomorrow.
