Not many people in the Visitor’s Center today, but those who visited were very interesting. I spoke with a retired teacher who used to bring his Anchorage science students to the Seward Science Center, where they spent the night – boys on one floor and girls on the other. It broke my heart as he spoke of his wife who died of cancer 2 year ago. Another gentleman, a retired physician and his wife, talked long about their lives and the land they own out on the Aleutian Islands, where they often spend the summer. They said that when they went up to the Bering Sea side, they could find Japanese glass floats by the thousands – amazing. They described how they had bid on the land, sight unseen, back in 1984, and have enjoyed it ever since. What stories and joys they shared on a rainy afternoon in Homer.

Dinner was at Starvin’ Marvin’s pizza, where we shared dinner with Joe and Lisa – Lisa is the new pastor at the Homer UMC. It was a delightful time of sharing, along with great pizza. Our halibut had been processed and frozen so we picked it up on the way home and it is now safely in the freezer, and we are crashed for the evening.
