New Plymouth.

From Mt. Egmont we headed north to New Plymouth. The weather was getting bad and it was after 7pm.

New Plymouth was nothing much... more very straight streets and some tacky neon lights. The rain had now kicked in fully so we decided to get back to Taupo sharpish.

We headed out of town North East on highway 3, but the weather deteriorated. As always we'd underestimated the distances of North Island. As the fog started to come in we realised that we weren't going to be able to drive to Taupo that night. The weather was far too bad and we had two mountain ranges to cross. After a short break we carried on further up SH3. As we climbed up one mountain the fog came in real bad. Visibility came down to about 10 metres at the top and Gareth had just about had enough. We wound back down to the bottom of the range then found a camping ground. We parked up and we were out for the count in seconds! It was only about 9pm!
