Once again I'll catch up on the journal while we're driving home for the holidays! And today is Liliana's first birthday which the family will celebrate on Saturday the 20th! We are very excited to be heading back after our 4-month summer/fall travels. And a good trip it's been but we're looking forward to family time.

We spent 9 lazy and relaxing days in our favorite boondock location out in the Anza Borrego Desert, about 5 miles east of the town of Borrego Springs on S-22, near Milepost 27...should you be in the area when we most likely return after the first.

The parking is free and the sun provides our electricity, though at times a wind generator would have been nice. Our Wilson Antenna/Booster keeps us connected via cell phone and internet, and there are absolutely no obstructions to receiving Direct TV via satellite. There are miles and miles of walking and jeep trails and a delightful little town nearby providing shopping and restaurants. We were disappointed that the citrus stands won't open until the end of November. We'll have to wait a while longer for some Seley Red grapefruit!

There are new sculptures placed in various fields around town and the old jeep and vineyard workers were cause to turn around and back track for many photos! The statues, crafted of metal by Ricardo A. Breceda of Perris, California, have created quite a buzz in the community. The sculptures were commissioned by part-time Borregan Dennis Avery and sit on land he owns and allows the public to use.

The neighborhood was relatively empty until the Veterans Day weekend brought out families loaded down with camping gear, dirt bikes and quads. A few of the "old-timers" are arriving for their yearly winter stay and we've met the same folks year-after-year. Our last day was made all the more special with a visit from good friends Gail and Earl who just bought a new Pleasure Way van and winter at their casita in Indio.

We'll let the pictures complete the story!
