We had attempted to do the Yamnuska Traverse way back in the early 1990's. There is a tricky bit that has some exposure about half way along and our group at the time wasn't comfortable with this (much to Pam's relief) so we went back the way we came.

Jeff and Ellen were looking for a close, relatively short scramble, Pam thought she must be tougher than she was way back when, so off we went to Mount Yamnuska. It was a beautiful warm day in the middle of the week so there were relatively few hikers on this normally busy mountain.

Pam was a bit apprehensive as we neared the "notch" that required some down climbing. Much to our surprise (or relief) someone had put in a cable that by-passed the down climb and allowed us to pull ourselves along a narrow ledge instead (definitely preferable to the alternate route but still a bit scarey). We all made it along without any trouble and we headed to the summit cairn for fabulous views of the Bow Valley.

The hike ends with a really long ski down the scree on the front of the mountain (you can see the ski tracks from highway 1 if the light is right). A great end to a fun hike. Too bad we waited all these years to do it again!
