Today we headed to Deadwood for a full day of Kool Deadwood Nites. We come each year and wind up staying about 12 hours. In case you are not familiar with Kool Nites, automobiles take center stage with a car show, show and shine and classic car parade over a long weekend. Other events include an art, memorabilia and classic car auction, a barbecue and a sock hop. And, let's not forget the music!

There are concerts on both Friday and Saturday. Tonight's free concert featured DD & The Fayroh's, as well as The Rat Pack Tribute. The headliner was The Platters. I'm sure that you remember that The Platters had a number of Top 10 hits, including "Only You," "The Great Pretender," "Twilight Time," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," and many more. They were all terrific. Especially the Platters. I'm including a couple of short video clips in this post in case you'd like a bit of the flavor of the event. If your download speed isn't too slow you should be able to view them fine. They are all very short.

This year Kool Deadwood Nites had about 15,000 in attendance. Wow, that's a lot of folks in this small town! Parking was tough. We finally located a good spot, although a bit of a walk from all the action. But we arrived in plenty of time to check out many of the 'Kool' cars & trucks. And to watch a bit of both an Elvis and a Neil Diamond impersonator. Both were very good. The sidewalks were difficult to navigate but we eventually arrived downtown Main street so we could join the sea of chairs. We set ours up about halfway down the block. Too far to see the stage very well, but right in front of a big screen. So, most of our pics are taken of the screen and not of the physical entertainers. But we still loved it! The weather was perfect. And, I have to say, we have never been in a more well-behaved large crowd. Not one disturbance...no police needed, no ambulance, no confrontations, not even an argument!

The Platters finished about 9:30pm and Larry & I went to retrieve the truck while Dick & Lou handled gathering our chairs and other belongings. We picked them up on the corner and made the one hour plus return trip home. It's always a bit of a slow trip, as the deer are out in force and we certainly don't want to hit one of them. We arrived safely and it didn't take long before we hit the sack. Another fun day spent here in the Hills....
