Day 23 - El Camino

Maximum & finishing elevation = 893 m, minimum & starting elevation = 483m. 10 - 27 degrees. Sunny.

We got up and out early, just after 7am. Walked the undulating hills for 8 kms to Villafranca de Bierzo. Vineyards ruled dotted with flowering fruit trees.

Villafranca del Bierzo was nestled into the base of a mountain, castle, cathedral, beautiful. We breakfasted on Tortilla.

Then, headed out into the mountains. River on our left, road on our right, the mountains towering above us on both sides.

We wound around the mountains, village hopping for the rest of the day. Each a 'pop-up' village appearing seemingly from nowhere around the next bend. The deciduous trees coming into leaf, provided a landscape of different greens, the mountains dotted with purple flowers. The cows with their bells filling the space left by the cuckoo's.

First stop Trabadelo for Grande cerveza (when in Spain!)

We lunched in Vega de Valcarce - hamburguesas. Finally! In the past, bars often not serving hamburguesas when we want them.

Then, the climbing got serious. We arrived in La Faba exhausted and covered in sweat.

An amazing night at the local bar with a few other pilgrims. The chef - an absolute blast. Had us in stitches all night.

Today's distance = 31.5 km
