We arrived in Bangkok to meet up with Laz and Peter and say goodbye to Liz and Baz. As Laz had booked into a 'posh' part of town, we found ourselves not in our usual backpacker area, but in the smarter girly bar/city part of town where we spent a couple of nights. We took a canal boat (mad and difficult to understand the routes), tried the Skytrain for the first time (good, cheap & reliable) and visited the famous Jim Thompson house and museum (he was an American who lived in Thailand for many years until his mysterious disappearance he forests of Malaysia in the 60s. He was an avid collector of all things Thai and re-constructed some beautiful original wooden Thai houses that now form a fabulous collection of architecture and artifacts. He was also known as "The Silk King" as he was largely responsible of bringing Thai silks to the attention of the wider world.
