At last...a campfire!

Fantastic day yesterday. We left our free campground and drove 5 miles back to the Roosevelt Dam Visitors Center. Then continued a few more miles east to the Tonto National Monument. Around A.D. 1250, some Tonto Basin people began building "pueblo" style homes in natural cliff caves high above the Salt River. We missed the ranger led tour of the Upper Cliff Dwelling but we did climb and climb and climb to the Lower Cliff Dwelling. The lower is the well preserved remains of a 700 year old village. It was very impressive and there was a docent there to describe everything. From there we drove along Lake Roosevelt’s shore on our way North. Are we crazy people? As we climbed and climbed the mountains we started to see some hints of snow. The further we ascended, more snow was evident. We pulled into our camp in Show Low, Arizona. The park ranger was happy to see us since not many folks are camping this time of year this far north. We took a non-hook up site for $17. It was going down to the teens overnight and the water in the hose from the outside faucet would have frozen. I built a small campfire and set up the grill for burgers and dogs and what to my wondering eyes should appear but a full bottle of propane for our grill. Our buddy Don will love this. If I deduct the $2.56 from our campsite our final cost was $14.44 and there is no tax in AZ State Parks. My father also appreciates my cheapness. Anyway we survived the night very well with the camper working superbly. We are loving being back on the road again doing interesting things. Enjoy the pics.
