Yesterday we visited the Lost Dutchman Museum during Apacheland Days. There once was the Apacheland Movie Studios where movies and TV shows were filmed. Death Valley Days, Have Gun Will Travel, The Gambler II and others we have all watched. Fire destroyed the studios twice, once in the 60's and again in the early 2000's. A couple of buildings were saved and moved to the museum grounds and they have built a small western town around them. It appeared the entire town of Apache Junction was there. They had craft booths of mostly western and Indian items, old time actors signing autographs and entertainment. Once in the museum the lore of the Lost Dutchman was unfolded. This refers to the mine that the Dutchman found but after he became rich decided not to go back and left the area. An earth quake hit and it is believed the mine shaft was covered over. Many people have tried to find the Lost Dutchman mine. Now you know the rest of the story. We both took hikes with Shirley's lasting 2 hours. I took a short half hour one and we rode bikes too. Good day all around. Off to church. Enjoy the pics.
