Thankful for a rest day while on vacation! Ben and I had about a 15 minute walk to the Van Gogh Museum for a 9:30 entry. I had read that going early to the museum was best — that noon or after was very crowded. Well, it was Very CROWDED!! We spent about 3 hours enjoying the beautiful paintings of Vincent Van Gogh and some of his painter friends. There was a special exhibit of his Japanese paintings even though he never visited Japan. He studied art from there and painted his vision of the country. Many of his painting were of peach trees—a favorite of mine!

After stopping off for coffee and banana bread, we returned to our hotel exhausted. Our busy week had caught up with us. We read, caught up on emails and napped and had planned to see the Rijksmuseum this afternoon but just could not muster up the energy to go and fight the crowds. Oh well, we will just have to make a return trip to Amsterdam! While I napped, Ben decided to go to Vondelpark and paint using the pastels he brought with us. He returned with a very nice piece of a beautifu gazebo by a pond near our hotel. We then spent about an hour on the phone with Verizon getting Ben’s international calling plan working. When we set this up before leaving home, Verizon set us up to be in Mexico or Canada. No surprise that we did not have any service.

Dinner plans were on our minds so off we went. We walked about 3 blocks to The Seafood Bar which had high ratings on Yelp and from the hostess at the hotel. We had about a 45 minute wait so we did some window shopping and people watching. Our dinner was delicious. The salmon for me and cod for Ben were prepared beautifull and were served with a salad and frites(French fries) with mayonnaise. A chocolate pie with whipped cream was shared for dessert. A pleasant stroll back to The Parkview, some packing and reading ended this beautiful Saturday in Amsterdam for us. Tomorrow we are off to Bruges!
