Fiona in action

Now the Kiwis reading this blog are about to experience an unsettling feeling because they like to promote Queenstown as the 'Adventure Capital of the World...', well move aside Queenstown & make way for Arenal.

This place has it ALL, Canyoning, Zip-Lining, trips to the Arenal crater are among many activities here.

Today we tried Zip-Lining. 8 cables spaning vast gorges, some of the cables being 130-150m in length, with drops of 600ft to the canyon below. Once again, getting to the place is an adventure itself, crossing swollen rivers, hoping the minivan does not begin to float away. Once there, you climb the mountain in a basket gondola lift up through the dense virgin rainforest canopy. Then you are don'd with a harness, a hat & a severe case of blind panic when you are fist shown how to attach, then hurl oneself out on the zip & across the valley.

The first big one (Fiona went first) was a total rush...

Of course, the whole experience was helped along by lots of North American bravado from those also on the tour from the USA. There was the usual 'Awesome Dude' & of course plenty of 'high-fives'. We coped amzingly well with this...AND the Zip-Lining. Check the video.

After an enjoyable, but exhausting time, it was back to the hotel for a jacuzzi & a sumptuous meal. The local Costa Rican food consists mostly of rice & beans, fried plantain, meat, guacamole & salad. It is yummy though...

We met Katie & Bret here, from the US, & swapped ideas & tails over cocktails & later in the open air hot tub, in a thunderstorm.

Tomorrow RAFTING...
