K: Queenstown the adventure capital of New Zealand and there was no way I was going to do a bungy jump, or in fact do anything that involved being high up! But I was definately up to try some white water rafting as I had always fancied having a go at that, and happily we could do it on the Kawarau river that was a LOTR location site (pillars of the king on the river before Boromir tries to take the ring).

But before doing that we were going to go on the Shotover jet boat - basically a jet boat that is very maneuverable and travels down the river canyon at speeds of 80km/h! We sat right at the front and got soaked when the driver spun the boat 360 degrees - great fun!

I did my best to stay dry during the rafting as you could go through some of the rapids out of the boat if you wished! I wish I had done it now, and I will next time, but it was brilliant fun. The Kawarau river had grades 3 and 4 rapids and it was enough for me as you didn't have to paddle all the time but could just enjoy the scenery, including watching bungy jumpers getting dunked in the river!

B: The jetboating was a little tame for my liking. It felt too safe and K didn't scream once. The rafting was much better. I quite happily jumped in and swam the first set of rapids. We were in a group of three boats and had great fun splashing, ramming and boarding their boats. I will have to get the pictures scanned before I can put them on the website but this might take a while.

K said at one point: "Careful, you're splashing me!". Fancy that, going on a white-water rafting trip and getting wet. Good job she had a wetsuit on then wasn't it!

That afternoon we took the cable car to the top of the mountain overlooking Queenstown. We tried out the luge whihc I found to be great fun and K thought was a bit fast.
