Salvador to Maceio, Brazil

After our exciting experience last night, we were up early to be on the road at 7am. Left Salvador, weather fine and warm then hot during the day. On the way north, there were many kilometres of roadworks, but it didn´t hold us up too much. Ultimately, we had a minor accident with a vehicle pulling out from a side street. This delayed us about 1 and a half hours, so we were all pretty stuffed by the time we reached camp at about 9:30pm. Dinner was accordingly later still, then to bed around midnight, with light rain falling on the tent.

Maceio, Brazil

Awoke this morning to quite a heavy rain shower that lasted about half an hour. We then had breakfast and it became hot and humid again. This place is only about 10 degrees south of the equator so it´s very steamy. Once we had done a little washing we headed off to town on the bus and walked around and had lunch. We will head back to the camp for a bit of a rest this afternoon. This town is a beach town but about 800,000 people live here so it´s quite large. It is a sugar town. There are hundreds of kms of sugar plantations on the way here, mainly used to make ethanol for petrol and cachaca.
