The Olson's Retirement RV Adventures travel blog

We are crossing the Missouri River one more time.

It is a little wider here.

Just one of some 3,000 Wall Drug signs along I-90.

That is the beginning of the Badlands.

I think our friends are excited about Wall Drug.

A piece of this was the original drug store in Wall, SD.

As you can see, it draws a crowd.

A look up the street at all the shops.

Across the street.

Down the other side of the street.

The food.

This was in what they call the back yard.

Diana found a boyfriend.

Our campsite at the Happy Holidays Motel and RV Park.

Yes, they made to Mt. Rushmore also.

Flags of all the states. Az. right up front.

And the closeup.

First stop after leaving Mitchell was Wall Drug in Wall, SD. It is one of the few towns on a 200 mile stretch of I90. It is known all over the world by the thousands of billboards. It is said they have over 3000 painted wood highway signs across the country. Mostly boosting free ice water and 5 cent coffee. It is a sprawling tourist mall.

We had lunch, free ice water and coffee. We walked through the shops and viewed the western art and knick-knacks.

From there we drove to Rapid City. We are staying a couple nights here and are camped at Happy Holiday RV park.

We had to visit MT.Rushmore. This is our third time here. We wanted Gophie and his bride to see it. So... 2 adults are carrying around two stuffed gophers and a big trophy to find the perfect picture. The spot we picked was very popular. We waited our turn and walked up and put them on the sign. Then a cell phone picture of our sons horseshoe trophy (long story)at the same spot. No one said a word or asked us why. Wonder what they were saying to each other?
