Chilkoot Lake

St Christopher Catholic Church

Corn

We got in the car and toured around Haines today. First we went north and saw some beautiful sights ending at Chilkoot Lake, (pic) a real gem in itself. Then we went south seeing some wonderful homes built in some terrain that would be difficult to walk on. Stopped at the Lighthouse restaurant for lunch. Then off to the IGA for some groceries. Everything seemed high especially corn on the cob. (pic) Wow. The fresh produce was high as to be expected. I forgot to mention yesterday that we parked at a church in order to eat lunch across the street. When we returned, a lady was outside watering the flowers. Karen of course struck up a conversation with her and we took a short tour of the church. It was St Christopher Catholic Church. It was built from an old quonset hut left behind by the US army from the building of the Alaskan Hwy. It was very small and would maybe hold 20 parishioners. Mass is still held there every Sunday!
