Enjoying a punt

A lady of leisure

An understated sign which amused us

B: We arrived in Christchurch around lunchtime and checked into the hostel. As today was the first day that Harry Potter 4 was out we went to the cinema to watch it. It's much easier to get a seat at 2pm on a Thursday when you don't have a job - we enjoyed being some of the first to see the film in a relatively empty cinema.

Christchurch is probably the most English of NZ's cities. Just to prove this, we rode on the Victorian tram and went punting down the river followed by a stroll around the formal gardens. It was very proper and decent, I do say!

The hostel had an outdoor barbecue area so we stayed in an had fillet steak and a good bottle of wine for dinner - flashpackers that we are.

K: I really liked Christchurch as it did feel very familar to me as the old uni area had quadrangles and it reminded me of my old uni. Although, it has neogothic buildings built out of stone

I'm afraid my primary concern of getting to Christchurch was getting in ASAP to see Harry Potter! Sad I know but it was a nice stop with good food and friendly people and I very much enjoyed a punt along the Avon river. That is the strange thing in New Zealand, all the names that I am familar with are used again, its slightly disconcerting!
