|We both agree that San Diego is the nicest, easiest city to get around we have ever been in. Not to denigrate the other great cities of the country but the mass transit is fabulous. There are tons of things to do in a concentrated area and the weather, come on. Another beautiful day as we headed out to the famous San Diego Zoo with our new friends Ray and Jenny. Trolley ride and a bus transfer and we were there in time for the zoo's opening. The zoo is fantastic but not flat. They have buses that take you around and you can get on and off plus a sky tram to get you from one end of the zoo to the other. After lunch Shirley and I headed off to Balboa Park and Ray and Jenny headed back to camp. The zoo is actually in Balboa Park but the park is huge. We started out walking through the cactus garden. Yes, there are many different varieties of cacti and the garden was huge and beautiful. Next through the rose garden with all the different rose varieties in bloom. We headed across the street to the exposition center which was built back in the early 1900 for the Pan American Exposition held there. Exquisite is the word to describe this area. Museums all over, street musicians, vendors manicured lawns and fountains. We will be doing a number of museums tomorrow. The ones we did today were FREE. Not finished yet we got back on the trolley and headed a few stops to PETCO Park where the Padres play major league baseball. The park is open from 10 am till dusk and we walked right in. Wow! We hopped back on the trolley and headed back to Old Town for dinner in the courtyard pictured in yesterday's blog. Very nice indeed and our evening included authentic Mexican dancing by a trio complete with costumes. It was another OUTSTANDING day. Enjoy the pics.
