On our way to LA. We stopped in a small town, Slovang, founded by Danish Americans from the midwest in 1910. Nine thousand acres of land was purchased to start a Danish Colony and folk school. The town was very quaint with danish architecture. In the upstairs of the Book Loft/Kaffe Haus was a Hans Christian Andersen Museum. Very informative. Not only was he a master of writing childrens fairy tales (Princess and the Pea, Snow Queen, Little Mermaid, etc) he also was an accomplished artist in intricate paper cuttings. An enjoyable stop and then on to Oxnard (strawberry and lima bean capital of California).
