Hi All,

Our stay in Mt Isa was just short, really just a restock stop, for us it’s the only way by road into or out of the Northern Territory from the east because we will not take our van on extensive dirt road trips and Mt Isa is the only way via bitumen.

Having restocked we started off entering the Northern Territory and stopped for a night at a roadhouse/petrol supply/restaurant/pub/caravan park being Barkly Homestead. From there it was a 375km run to the next roadhouse with the lot called Cape Crawford but there was no cape and nothing in between and we mean nothing and back to single lane bitumen all the way. Fortunately it had been dry so we did not get a repeat of the mud on the van.

For a day drive we went another 100kms north to Borroloola a very indigenous town then another 50kms to an ore loading port returning via King Ash Bay a caravan and fishing place. In this area you are now in the real outback, no hospital for at least 500kms in any direction and extremely limited services but you can buy half a small cauliflower, well it was only $8.99, ouch we did not have cauliflower that night.

And so another 275 kms single lane bitumen to an iconic Australian pub at Daly Waters which was one of our real wants for the trip. A few hundred kms north of the geographical centre of Australia it’s a pub with a ton of attitude and a load of saved rubbish hats, thongs, badges, bras and more all proudly on display and it was busy, very busy with caravanners. Happy hour and the dinner of Beef and Barra and entertainment were all great.

Now at Katherine for a restock before heading off to Kakadu.

Love and best wishes
