We arrived in Osoyoos after a long trip through Kelowna traffic. It seemed smoky all the way from Williams Lake and our suspicions were confirmed when we checked into our motel and the clerk told us that highway 3 east bound was closed in two places due to forest fires. Osoyoos is a border crossing town but I had planned to head east from here and skirt the border on the Canadian side until we got to Creston BC and cross into the US in Idaho, pick up route 200 and follow it along the scenic Clarks Fork river down to Missoula and interstate 90.
Will now have to cross here and enter in Washington. In any case we should be back in the USA tomorrow and back to Joliet the following day, Saturday August 15..
Friday August 14
Forest fires are everywhere in southern BC and northern Washington and Idaho. Some beautiful scenery was all but obscured for our entire trip from Osoyoos to Kellogg Idaho. Upon checking in the clerk told us we had gotten the last rooms and a crew of firefighters were coming in tonight and had booked all the remaining rooms. It is what it is. We had a great and memorable trip. We are still all friends and now have some great memories. We had few problems along the way and seemed to make the most of and deal with the few we had with laughter. We’ll be home tomorrow afternoon and Pinky and Elaine should be home Monday afternoon.
