The night train from Mui Ne up to Da Nang is over air-conditioned. We start piling on the wool underwear and the fleeces we have buried in the bottom of our packs but its relentless. Cold and exhausted we finally arrive into the beautiful warm morning haze of Da Nang. We take a minibus along the coast at 5.30 in the morning, past hundreds of eager Vietnamese exercising on the beach. The sands stretch for quite a few km and even though the sun is only just climbing in the sky, the beach is full of people doing yoga and Tai Chi, playing volleyball and badminton and taking exercise classes and jogging.

In Hoi An we are treated to some fellow Norwegian company: some friends of friends that we spend a lovely couple of days with. The 4 of us wander the old streets and us 3 girls drool over the countless shopping opportunities. Together we take a cooking class and learn how to make rice paper which seems to resemble making pancakes on a cloth stretched over boiling water. We have to somehow lift the pancake up off the cloth gauze with a bamboo stick. The "pancakes" or rice paper are then filled with fresh mint and basil and vegetables and meat and rolled into a spring roll and dipped in peanut sauce. Afterwards we seek out a patisserie my sister and I visited on our trip to Hoi An 5 years ago, and even find the same desert: passionfruit cheesecake ... delicious!
