|Up early this morning to hit another market (yes, I found another one!) before we were to catch the interislander ferry from Wellington in the north island to Picton in the South Island. The market was quite nice, right on the waterfront with the cheapest fresh veggies and fruit we have found yet. Grabbed a coffee/latte and headed to the ferry. Good thing we booked this is advance, as it was quite busy the day after the 7s rugby tourney. Lots of people passed out all over the floor, some with their costumes and make-up still on from the night before. The ferry ride was quite beautiful! Amazing scenery.
We arrived in Picton and picked up a map to route out a wine tour on our way to Kaikoura, where we had planned to stay the night. The wine region is called the Marlborough and is known for their sauvignon blanc. We toured Hunters, Cloudy Bay and Scott family wineries, as well as the Manaka choc shop, picking up some wonderful choc covered macadamias. We then carried on to Kaikoura to the lazy shag hostel to check in for the night. However, they didn't have record of our reservation, so we decided to carry on another 2.5 hours to Christchurch. Kaikoura is known for whale/seal/dolphin watching, and we had saw some seals sitting on rocks on the drive in and decided that was good enough for us. Christchurch was also named as one of the top 10 cities to visit in the world in 2013, so we thought we might like more time there anyways. We ended up having to stay in a hotel for the night, which was a nice treat!
Check out the pic of the poor group passed out on the ferry deck, they were not in good shape.
