Today was a great day!

In the morning we left Bounty Islad and took a transfer to South Sea island. From there we took the Tiger IV boat (very much like the 'Yasawa Flyer') over to a Mamanuca group island called Mana. From there we jumped on a huge sailing boat called 'Sea Spray'. It was a huge boat originating from Scotland in the 1920's.

When we got on the boat the first thing the crew did is hand us champagne and watermelon follwed by wishing us a big hello! Then then said that the bar was open and it was a free bar for the rest of the day. Helen and Gareth got very excited about that! The sailing boat then left port and headed along a group of islands up toward the Island of Modriki, which is where Tom hanks starred in the film 'Castaway'. We were first dropped off at an island next to Modriki, where we were taken to a village for a Kava ceremony. Kava is illegal in most countries, but is basically a type of coffee that the Fijians drink in a grand ceremony. They were determined that all westerners try it, so Helen and I were up for giving it a go. Apparently if you drink loads of the stuff you begin to hallucinate and all sorts of other things, but Helen and I only wanted a sip!

Now time for the cultural bit. The guy hands you a cup (which is like half a coconut) and you have to clap once (which means 'I'll have some of that please!'). You then take the cup, down in one and give the cup back, clapping three times shouting out 'Vinaka!' (Thank you!). To be fair, we thought that it tasted like muddy water! We did notice after about 30 seconds that our tongues felt furry and our jaws went numb, but really that was about it!

After the Kava we were all wheeled into the local market, where Gareth bought helen a necklace (aww!) and other gifts were also purchased! We then jumped back on Sea Spray, where a BBQ was waiting for us. The food was fantastic and the accompanying bread and salad was out of this world. After the food we were dropped off at Modriki for 90 mins, where we could rest our bellies and go snorkelling there!

It was then time to jump back on Sea Spray as it made its way back across the islands to mana. There were huge amounts of Japanese tourists on the boat, which was cool because we got to meet loads of them! One of them asked Gareth his name..

"Awww... Gawaf? Vewy comwicated name!"

So we asked him what his was...

"Aww.. Mr Moriako Fujikawa!" :O

Right.

From there it was back onto Tiger IV at Mana, which took us all the way back to the mainland at nadi. We then transferred to the Nadi bay Hotel, where we stayed the night before our flight to New Zealand.
