Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

We got on the road fairly early this morning as we dry docked last night & only had one slide to pull in...sometimes that is nice. We have it down to about 1 hour to totally pack up both inside & out when we get the itch. Not too bad, especially since I have been accused of having too much "girly stuff".

We traveled Hwy 66 to Klamath Falls due to my navigational recommendation, & once again wound up climbing a 5,000 ft mountain pass! Wow...I can really pick 'em...but once again it was a totally beautiful drive. There was very little traffic except the logging trucks, they are doing some major logging in this area. And the beautiful deer that were everywhere.

We arrived in Keno, just west of Klamath Falls, & checked in to the Round Lake Golf & RV Resort. A very nice spacious site for $13.00 a night. Passport America again. We are planning to go to Crater Lake but it is late enough today that we asked Rita at the check-in desk if there was anything else interesting to do in the area. She recommended Captain Jack's Stronghold so we decided to wait to do Crater Lake tomorrow morning & go to Captain Jack's today.

I called my cousin's, Tom & Lois Potter, to let them know we were in town & invite them to dinner when they might have time. Left a message on answering machine. And we were off. We traveled Hwy 140 a short distance to Hwy 39 to the town of Merrill, where we asked a young man for directions. That was a very good decision, as you would not just stumble on the turnoff, believe me. You turn down a small street Malone Dr, go 3 miles to Hill Rd, turn left, cross into California (Rita didn't mention that part!) & after about 20 miles, you arrive at the Lava Beds National Monument. Ok...

I think I will make this a 2 part post as I have been a little windy this morning. So, please read the next post to see the photos & learn a bit more about Captain Jack.
