We slept in this morning. We had wakened earlier, then fallen back to sleep. It was after 9 when we woke. I had a shower in the club house and we had breakfast then left for Newport. We drove directly there, going North, so we could stop at the viewpoints on our right as we returned south. At Newport we followed signs to "Historic Nye Beach".

We found a parking lot and admired the view of the beach with a lighthouse in the distance. We walked into the main street of this portion of the town and looked at the shops. There was "Nana's Irish Pub" on a corner and we decided to have lunch there. It was quite good and very filling. We returned to the car and went up to the main part of Newport, stopping at a pharmacy for some items we needed, then continuing down to where we could view the impressive bridge that spans the bay. We went along the South Jetty and watched the waves beating in the rocks across the channel. We came under the bridge to the harbour area. Christine had seen a sternwheeler and wanted a closer look. It was an old riverboat converted to a bed & breakfast.

We returned to the highway and worked our way down the coast stopping at several points to see the beaches and rocks. Notably, we stopped at Yachats State Park and at the Devil's Churn as well as other points. The Devil's Churn and another spout are best viewed at high tide, so we hope to return when conditions are better to see the water perform.

We returned to the campground and had a light meal. I worked on the photos and Christine admired the view and the sunset.

It was a lovely sunny day, but there was a strong wind which kept things cool.

We will explore further tomorrow, possibly back to Florence, then further south.
