Great Alaska Adventure travel blog

It’s a wrap. We were up early to finish preps for returning the RV. We stopped at a little bakery in Girdwood and paid outrageous prices for morning pastries and coffee.

The RV return process was uneventful and took about 15 minutes. We made a quick trip to the airport with a plan to check our baggage and rent a car. Unfortunately, the Continental ticket counter did not open until 3 PM, so I made a quick trip to the rental car counter to find that Budget could not find the reservation that I made about an hour earlier and the customer service team was in no great hurry to help. We jumped in the rental car with the intent to drive as far north as we could in the available time to try to see Denali. At the point that we ran into construction on the Parks Highway we decided to abort. We had a nice drive and had lunch in Wasilla.

Our Continental flight from Anchorage to Seattle was packed and it took almost an hour for the boarding process to complete - all of that carry on luggage (to avoid the $25 checked baggage fee) takes a long time to stow. I must say this was the most uncomfortable flight I have had in years. Continental must have squeezed the absolute maximum number of seats possible on this 757-300. And the cabin environmental control system had cabin temp hot enough to melt our chocolate bar that came with our “dinner snack”.

We have had a fantastic two weeks in Alaska. We highly recommend Great Alaskan Holidays for your RV rental in Alaska. We are thinking about ferrying an RV from Iowa to Anchorage next spring.
