|Today we didn't move the bus, we just walked around town.
Haines is a interesting place. The population in the summer is 2400 people. A commercial fisherman we sat with in the local bar said the population goes down to about 35 in the winter. Haines is an artist community. It said they have the largest per-capita population of artists of anywhere in the nation. They have one market, one gas station, one motel, and 20 art galleries.
Only one cruise ship stops here. A few years ago they rebuilt the harbor and to help pay for the work they raised the price they charge the cruise ship to dock. They were getting more ships but now they are down to just one. They charge 10 dollars per person that come on shore.
