"One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble!"
...or so the song says. But what will it do to two weary backpackers from India? Ann and I were about to find out.

Our arrival in Bangkok was accompanied by the sadness of having left India behind, much anticipation to be someplace new, and a little anxiety of having to figure out a unfamiliar language, methods, and money. We had little time to think of anything else as we had to contend with the physical toll of traveling. Our flight hadn't left Mumbai until 4:30AM, and although I slept like a rock on the plane (Ann wasn't so lucky), the short three hour flight had me completely out of whack.

Gluttons for punishment, though, we got into the city, took only a short nap to recuperate, and cut through the heat and humidity to see Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) and Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha.) It wasn't until we were trying to enjoy the city at night with a Singha beer and wonderful new Thai flavors that it hit -the fever. (And before I go any further, let me emphasize that this is not a 'get all worried about Brad's health and/or the state of health care in Southeast Asia' kind of fever. I'm fine -and besides Ann has done plenty enough worrying for everybody.) It knocked me out for that evening and the next -but thankfully, I had a fit and able day of Bangkok sights in between, and I'm back to normal. Really -I feel great!

"One night in Bangkok and the whole world's your oyster!"
(Who comes up with this stuff anyway?)
