Nancy and I joined John and Susan to check out Port Townsend with John driving. It couldn't have been a better day with very mild temperatures and sunshine all day. John and Susan are such a hoot, and we had a great time with them, topped off with dinner by Nancy, not to mention a few gin and tonics.

Somehow I had an impression that Port Townsend was a small town, maybe somewhat bigger than Port Gamble, but I was very wrong about that. It's quite a bustling place with lots of touristy kind of shops, restaurants, etc. Above the downtown area is a bluff where the historical Victorian housing is located. We parked John and Susan's Ford F350 pickup and walked all over the upper area first, and then drove to the downtown area, parked and walked all around that area. It was a very relaxed, pleasant experience with two very special friends. The movie Officer and a Gentlemen was filmed in this town.

College football season starts today and my team, Virginia Tech (#7), is playing Alabama (#5) this evening. This is probably the biggest game in the recent history of Virginia Tech and I'll be watching. I prefer college football to the pro's, but enjoy both.

There is a 100% chance of rain and wind today so we may be holed up inside the Dutch Star, but maybe not, who knows.
