After leaving Beauvert Lake we traveled once again down the parkway, this time heading south. We wanted to check out Sunwapta Falls. When we passed it on our way north we were of course pulling the 5'er. Even though we could tell that the falls wasn't far off the road there was just not a good place for us to park. Once again, the Class C's that so many of the Canadians rent to view this great country is ideally suited for maneuvering into these tight parking lots and pull-outs.

Sunwapta means 'turbulent water'. This is a class 6 waterfall, with a drop of 60 feet and a width of 30 feet. We are visiting the upper fall, although there is a lower fall that is equally as impressive if you feel like a hike. It was late enough this afternoon that we opted to view the upper fall only. Of course it goes without saying that all of this water also originates from the Athabasca Glacier you saw earlier. Not as large and impressive as Athabasca Fall, Sunwapta Fall is still very pretty and worth the stop. We understand that volumes are much higher in early summer during glacier meltdown. Perhaps we'll come a little earlier in the year on our next visit, although it's been wonderful being in this area without all of the summer 'crowd'.

We're heading back to Jasper now hoping to catch some wildlife along the way. It should be their feeding time soon so hopefully we'll get lucky. See you on down the road...
