Larry & Lee Ann's Journey travel blog

The day started off beautiful today...

Trans Canada Hwy 1 just ahead...

View off to my left...

One of the animal bridges ahead, neat idea, just love them!

Wonderful rock formations...

A lazy river running along the freeway!

Perhaps a better view, not as much glare here...

A few black clouds are trying to move in, but I have...

We liked the clouds and the sunlight trying to break in here!

A bit of the highway work going on, wonder if they notice...

Nice lighting here...

Pretty nice road to travel!

Caught this train under cloudy skies, last pic for now!

Saturday we pulled out of Banff and made our way down the Trans Canada Hwy 1, back to Lake Louise where we picked up 93N to Jasper, also known as the Icefield Parkway. Our time in the Banff area flew by entirely too quickly but we tried to make the most of it. We certainly visited as many of the local sights as we could. Frankly, all of the hiking around the lakes and through Johnston Canyon made our legs just a wee bit sore! So traveling for the day was a welcome break!

We were actually ready to go by 9:30am, early for us. After studying the map of the Parkway we knew there were 22 designated turnouts for viewing and we wanted to make sure we stopped at as many as possible. There is also road construction on Hwy 1, as they widen it around the Lake Louise area, and we hoped they wouldn't be working on Saturday. Alas, they were. Turned out pretty well though, the delays were much shorter than earlier in the week. I took tons of pictures, over 260 total, some along Hwy 1 before we even started on the Parkway. So, I am going to break them up into a couple of posts as I don't want to bore you all to death! The scenery continues to be amazing all around us and I could take 1,000 pics a day! So, if I have Internet service, I will post these, then will slip back to 3 lakes we visited in the Banff area, and then post the Icefield Parkway photos. Thanks so much for following along with us. I hope you are enjoying the sights as much as we are...
