We enjoyed a relaxing morning where we made peace with the donkey alarm clock that had been waking us up at 5:00 am. Then we hopped back in the van for the drive back to Arequipa. This is Kevin and Barb's last day with us as they leave for Lima tomorrow morning. We spent the afternoon exploring the amazing Monasterio (which is actually a convent?!). It is like a small walled town in the middle of Arequipa and very picturesque. Then we had a farewell dinner at Chi Cha, one of the many restaurants in Peru owned by chef Gaston Acurio, the most famous chef in Peru. It was a great meal in the courtyard of a restored colonial building. While there, we were surprised when the restaurant staff brought over a phone because there was a call for Kevin. It was the Colca Lodge calling and they had tracked us down because we had them make the reservation for us. Apparently Kevin had been overcharged on his bill and they noticed the issue after we left. While we were at the restaurant, a representative from the lodge actually stopped by and gave Kevin a cash refund, talk about service! After a fabulous meal we said a sad goodbye to Barb and Kevin and made our way back to our wonderful boutique hotel/b&b, The Casa Arequipa. It is a small hotel in a restored colonial home with 10 bedrooms, amazing views of the volcanoes and the most attentive staff we've every had at a hotel. We're staying here for 3 nights while we explore Arequipa and try out more restaurants. Peru is suppose to be the up and coming star of the culinary world and our plan for the rest of our trip is to find out if that is true!
