The only reason to go to Uyuni is to visit the salt flats. The town stands in the middle of a flat plain with nothing else around for miles!!

But the salt flats were incredible, stretching 12,000Km2 and averaging 120m deep. 60% of the world's lithium is also located here. Bumming around in jeeps we watched how the salt is processed by being dried in special beds and packaged up. 1lb of salt costing 20c. We toured and lunched at Fish Island, a random island surrounded by salt, made of coral where loads of cactus grow. The cactus plants grow at 1cm per year, and there were some very old ones here! Stunning scenery and we even got to watch the film of a pop video! A pretty sunset, but could have been more impressive.
