Wiki Info Emirates Palace Hotel

Day Trip to Abu Dhabi After a short Metro ride to the main bus terminal, we boarded a bus which landed us 2 hours later in Abu Dhabi, the emerate which on a path to supercede Dubai in everything glitzy. It's transport system (lacking a Metro, it's just buses) is cheap (.25 US to go most everywhere) but needs refining and is slow to get around - Abu Dhabi is REALLY spread out to be serviced by buses. We had to wait an average of 20 min. for each trip we took - 4 in all in 105° F (45° C) little shade! First to Marina Mall, then Emerates Palace, and final stop Abu Dhabi Mall! See photos. Met a fellow on one of the bus city trips from Sri Lanka...working as a hotel porter. He said his employer pays all medical, provides a flat which he shares with another fellow, plus pays for transport to & from Sri Lanka as well as salary. I asked if he gets back home once in awhile and he said yes, about once every year and a half he gets a month off. After spending time cooling our heels - literally - in A.D. Mall mostly eating we realize that it's almost 9 and we have a 2 hour ride back to Dubai but first need to get to bus station to depart! On the street we watch as bus after bus heading everywhere but where we want to got pass by. Finally, beginning to wonder if we're waiting for the right bus a fellow confirms that, indeed, #52 or #54 do go to the main terminal..."Coming right now soon!" Ha, I should hope so and yes, here they BOTH come one behind the other! It is a slow bus which stops at every bus stand. Slowly, slowly and then suddenly MARI is up from her seat (the women mostly sit separate from men in the front of the bus, there being a gated divider). Gotta get off, a woman she was talking with has informed her! Off on a huge wide boulevard and wondering where we are when Mari again spots something familiar...it's the bus terminal way over yonder! Hustling over, wondering if we just missed one (they leave every 40 min.). Whew, one is waiting still...driver says 20 min. leaving. It's now 9:20! The ride this morning was 2 hours, the Metro stops we think at midnight. The 20 minutes turns into 40 when we finally pull away. I fall asleep and wake up when the driver stops to let passengers off in outskirts of Dubai. It's 11:10...this driver is a wizard, just cruising thru town we arrive at the station 20 past 11, plenty of time since the Metro is just a short walk away. On the platform waiting for train to arrive it's 11:28 and we hear, in English, "Last train leaving this station at 11:40!" "Well, wasn't that well timed!" Bon and Mari. I'm the person of glass half empty so my response would not have been quite so jolly. I keep my thoughts to myself alot. I wonder what my blood pressure is right now? Perhaps I need some mantra or meditation device. My be-here-now intellectual self just can't seem to encounter my emotional side at times like these. Hmmm.
