The view from outside the windshield this morning.

April 5, 2011: Tuesday morning at the Lakeside RV Park and Campground in Davenport, Iowa. We ducked in here yesterday afternoon to escape the Iowa winds gusting to 30 mph on the highway. Having learned my lesson about trying to drive in wind the day before, I wasn't ready for more punishment.

This is a small park with limited facilities, but it does have water, electricity and sewer for $12.50 a night (PA rate). The camp manager lives in a 5th wheeler in the park, and when I went in to register I was greeted by 4 friendly (thankfully) big dogs of various breed, imagine that.

No cable television, but we got about 20 area stations using our crank-up antenna. Davenport is close to the state line, in the "Quad City" area of Davenport, and Bettendorf, both in Iowa, and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline in Illinois. Now, that is 5 cities, not 4, so it should be called the "Quint City" area with the addition of fast-growing Bettendorf a few years ago, but "Quad" was too ingrained and attempts to change it failed. (Now you know the rest of the story.) With all these cities, television coverage with an air antenna is the best I've seen anywhere.

The winds are calm this morning, with a wake-up temperature of just 32°. Hazel is anxious to get home and pack for her trip on Sunday, but I convinced her this is supposed to be fun, and I don't want to drive 425 miles at once, when we can be in a nice RV park along the Mississippi River in Winona, Minnesota in just 185 miles.

We'll be heading for Winona as soon as the dishes are done. Hazel, get them there dishes done!
