We rolled out of the RV park around 9 o'clock westbound on I-10 for California. The checkpoint at the state line was brief, basically a wave-through. We had good roads and light traffic to Indio. We stopped there for a break for us and Foxy. We anticipated the traffic would get a little heavier west of there and it did and the roads deteriorated a bit too.
We took I-10 all the way to CA 57 and then I-210 west to Arcadia. We had a couple of routes mapped out as contingencies in case left turns were prohibited since the races are on at Santa Anita Racetrack. As we approached, we decided to go with our first choice; Joe had looked at it on Google Earth and it looked OK...sure enough, a couple of turns brought us straight to Gate 6 at Santa Anita Park. Our crew were there to give us directions about disconnecting cars, where to park, etc.
Soon, we were set up; we have 30 amp electric and nice spaces in a paved parking lot. We registered for the rally, had time to look at the information packet, and relax for the afternoon before the Welcome Social Hour (with beer and wine) and a lovely dinner of Roast Beef, lots of vegetables, salad, and apple cobbler for dessert.
Our first day of the Rose Bowl festivities was enjoyable.
