|After 5 nights sleeping in my tent,I was excited to get to Swakopmund and a hostel. The "Desert Sky" wasn't the ritz, but it would suffice as a base for two days. It reminded me of a church rectory or of Loyola Hall - the Jesuit Residence at my alma-mater BC High. There was old wood paneling on the walls and furniture circa 1967, and it just smelled old. Fortunately, this period styling did not extend to the dorms.
"Lofty" was the hostess and she completed the picture by listening to oldies music non-stop all day.
The town itself was great. Apparently Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited earlier this year to give birth to their new daughter. German colonial architecture, a lovely coast AND a world class neo-natal unit - who'd have thunk?
Oh yeah, I almost forgot ... I jumped out a plane.
