The Christmas parade started last night at 6:00. Our neighbors across the street, Bill and Nancy, invited us to go with them, and then to go to a neighborhood party afterward. So off we went to the end of the street where people had lawn chairs lined up beside the road waiting with anticipation. We being the newbies, had no idea of what to expect.
So promptly at 6pm the sheriff comes through leading the parade.(The neighbors said that a few years ago a Santa look-a-like had an accident down on the frontage road, expired, and no one noticed until much later. So they decided to invite the police to come to the parade in case of problems.) Well, anyway the parade is really cute, it is compiled mostly of decorated ATV,s, golf carts, with a few trucks, and cars thrown in. Generators hum away providing power to many of these vehicle's, as the they shout "Merry Christmas" as they drive by. There was a Seahawk float being pulled by a truck, which got a cheer from us! There was a couple of old VW buses, and even an old VW bug. I was amazed that some of these floats had installed lights in their wheels, it looked cute as the wheels rolled by! Anyway it ran for about 30 minutes, and finished up with another sheriff keeping track of any Santa's that might go astray!
So off to the neighbors for the party. It was a low key event with hot apple cider and snacks (not that it was that cold outside). They had a gas fire outside to sit around and chat. It was impromptu fun!
