Beautiful little village of Haines

Pinky had a good size fish on but lost him near shore

Great hospitality and breakfasts here at Sheltered Harbor Inn

We visited the American Bald Eagle Foundation

As we departed Haines the clouds lifted a enough for us to...

Haines is a quaint little village nestled in a little valley along the inside passage. Although they do host a cruise ship business it is nothing compared to hustle-bustle of Skagway. Lutak road takes one from the ferry terminal into town and hugs the coastline. It was on this road on our way along the Chilkoot river going to Chilkoot lake that we saw a grizzly sow and her two cubs. Unfortunately she did not care to pose for pictures. Pinky hooked into a decent fish and played it for a short time but unfortunately it didn’t come to the net to be identified. We visited the American Bald Eagle Foundation and enjoyed a Salmon Bake lunch at a benefit for the Chilkoot tribe. One looses some amenities when they choose bed & breakfast lodging over conventional hotels but here in Haines our hosts Laura and Byron were an excellent example of the reason to do so. Their hospitality was unsurpassed and the breakfasts with fresh baked muffins and informative dialog were unforgettable. Haines is surrounded by towering snow capped mountains that peeked through the clouds from time to time giving us a view of some awesome scenery despite mother natures overcast and drizzle. Had the weather been clear and sunny it would have been spectacular!
