|Yup, we are in the land of the 10,000 lakes. We left Michigan with a travel day in store. FINALLY found a Wells Fargo bank in Superior Wisconsin don't cha know. Found out that my nice Julianna's parents are from Superior. But I must regress. We stopped in Ironwood Michigan to see the 52 ft tall Hiawatha statue weighing 1800 pounds (slightly more than the real guy). Crossed into Wisconsin and stopped in Ashland on Lake Superior to see the city of murals. Very interesting depiction of the history of this one time shipping center. A few miles down the road we stopped into the Northern Great Lakes Visitor's Center which was really excellent. We then travelled to Duluth MN and took the depot tour of the old train depot which included 4 museums, my fave being the trains on the rails with the facades of buildings of the late 1800's of Duluth. Then the adventure really began as we looked for our campground at a county park. After trying it on our own with a map, then with our GPS, we finally asked for directions. We came to the road? where the sign was and headed down a dirt one lane path. We finally came upon the sign pointing us in the right direction. We had a nice campsite, one of 9 right on the Mississippi river. Yes, it DOES start in Minnesota! The mosquitoes and black flies were overpowering. We did not have any utilities but being self contained we were fine. Great view but glad to move on. Enjoy the pics.
