We were on the dock this morning by 7:30 as the Kachemak Bay Birders had their boating outing on the Bay Excursions with Karl Stoltzfus, a really good birder. We spent 3 hours on the water, which was very flat, enjoying old friends and new, and seeing LOTS of neat birds. It was a great time with good water and a very low tide.
When we got back, we stopped for lunch at the Sourdough Bakery and café. Evidently they were having real difficulties, as we waited, along with others, for 1.5 hours for our food. We were in no hurry, so it was not an issue. At one time, there were only 2 tables in the entire restaurant that had food! One waitress said that one of their grills had gone down, but it is Memorial Day weekend, so everyone is busy. We will try this place again.
We bought our boots at Kachemak Gear Shed, as our old winter Sorrels are just way too heavy and not built for mud and water. We will be co-leading our first Tidepool walk tomorrow. A stop at the grocery netted a few steaks; when we have shopped on ‘old people’s Tuesday,’ which is the last day before the ad changes and seniors are given 10% off, there has been nothing left of what was on sale for the week. SO, we decided we wanted to have a little beef – we have had almost none since we left home.
We spent the afternoon checking photos – I cut John’s hair and we showered. Dinner was a small bowl of bean w/bacon soup. It has been a great day.
