Kyla and Nick Around the World travel blog

Getting set for the hike ... all bundled up at 4:45 am

The beginning of the pass. We followed those black and white metal...

Kyla hiking (or, at 5300 metres, walking a bit, breathing, then walking...

At the top of the Thorung La, one of the highest passes...

Nick, the top of the pass, some prayer flags, a knock-off OR...

Kyla, happy that the Thorung La is behind her. The walk down...

Well, we managed to conquer the highest (or one of the highest, no one can tell me straight) passes in the world - the Thorung La, or 5416m of snow, rock, and oxygen depleated environment. We're on the other side of the pass now, in a different valley, and the world is very different indeed - no more cold showers in a little concrete bunker, and plenty of apple crumble.

We'll be heading down this valley for the next week or so, then pampering ourselves in Pohkara for a few days before heading on. Now that we have (somewhat) cheap and reliable internet access, we'll be planning out the next while of our journey as well.

Pictures and stories of the pass sometime later!
