We arrived at Eastshore RV Park 25 minutes after we left Prado into our favourite site - C36 - overlooking the lake. It was the end of a weekend which turned out to be a long one. Most schools were closed because Tuesday is a holiday (Veterans Day). We wandered over to the race track. Larry had had an e-mail about new trackside RV sites with full hook-ups when he first ordered our tickets. After checking them out, Larry called to see if any were available. They had apparently sold out really fast. There were only 25 of them. Luckily, there had just been a cancellation! Mike Thompson RV had purchased Site 1 (for three races) to offer as the prize in a draw. The winner of the draw was unable to get their RV to the race so Mike Thompson RV put it back in the pool for NHRA to sell. Yay for us! We didn't take long to decide to take it. The unfortunate part is that because we had already checked in, Eastshore RV would not give us any money back. NHRA did credit us $285 for the difference between our reserved seats and the four general admission tickets that come with the site. It was expensive but what an experience! We had to check-in between 8 am and noon on Wednesday morning - we were first there. Hardly excited at all. The hook-ups were excellent and the site was perfect. After all the RVers had arrived, they put a fence around all of us for security. We had a great weekend. We met some nice people but it was mostly guys away for the weekend. You could have up to four in your RV plus occasional guests. It was a great viewing point, right at the finish line. The weather was cloudly and cooler until Sunday when it was sunny most of the day. The track is right by the little San Dimas airport and it was busy all weekend with helicopters, small planes and some private jets. The Goodyear blimp also put in an appearance.

We checked out Monday and headed to the coach repair shop only to find out that the awning had not arrived as expected. It would be another week hopefully. After a couple of phone calls we headed to Emerald Desert RV in Palm Desert. We have friends staying here - two brothers (Jim and Peter and their wives Bobbi and Diane) who used to live in Estevan and their other brother (Bob) who still lives in Estevan. He is renting a house in Palm Springs and was there for his son's wedding. It was nice to see them again. The first night there was an Italian potluck. The weather is lovely here. We spent a lot of time checking out rentals for next winter. We did find one so we'll see how that works out. Wednesday night is happy hour - all complimentary - beer, wine, margaritas, nachos - and then to Jim and Bobbi's for a wonderful dinner. Thursday we met Larry and Diane from Swan Lake for happy hour at The Classic. There are drink and food specials. Their wings are excellent as is their flatbread pizza. We went just before 4:00 and were able to sit outside. Friday we went with the Estevan crew at the same time and because there were 7 of us we had to wait for outside seats. We waited about an hour and they finally opened up some seating inside just for us. They gave us one round of drinks for having waited so long.

Friday we also finalized our condo rental for next year. It's at Desert Princess Golf Resort. We got the price we wanted. It's three bedrooms, two bathrooms and there is a little swimming pool and hot tub almost right outside the door! At this point this means the coach will go up for sale shortly and we'll see what happens. We are still waiting for word on what's happening with the building/reno of the Sechelt house.

Saturday we went to the outdoor market at the College of the Desert. It's the usual stuff so we were through it pretty quickly. We did find some homemade pasta (the kind that you can use some pasta water for the sauce - like we had bought in Tucson last year) and some little fresh baked loaves (banana/blueberry/pecan and banana/chocolate chip/pecan/cherries on top). Sunday Bob had us all over for dinner - burgers, sausage, salads, cheesecake. Monday we headed out - hopefully to hear that the awning has arrived in Chino. Not to be! We stayed the night at Morongo Casino and headed to Arizona on Tuesday.
