View up from Lima into Smog

We arrived safely by LAN from Quito...a relatively uneventful flight (2 hrs).

First impressions were totally different to those we had expected. The expectation was of a run-down place worse than was quite to the contrary. Lima appears to be developing rapidly while still keeping some of it's rich colonial history.

The place looked pretty much like many Spanish towns, with the additional modern high risers.

Lima spends about 8 months of the year in mist/fog which is a shame... It's foggy season by the way... This was the only drawback as it meant the hotel room was both very cold & very damp. The day after we arrive we were taken on a tour of the old town, a monastery & some catacombes...all very interesting.

We are in a small group with Peregrine tours. This consists of only one other couple Phil & Lindel from Melbourne, AU & our guide, Mario, from Lima.

Tomorrow we transfer by bus to Nazca...
