....sitting on the beach in Napier....(2)

We left Wellington this morning with our new driver, Nigel, bound for Napier on the east coast....we followed the Petone Seaview out of Wellington and made our way up to the Rimutaka Summit with the Rimutaka Valley on the left and Wairaparapa Valley on the right...then headed down into the Wairaparapa Valleym passing thru numerous small towns on our way to our morning tea stop at the Takahe Café at Mt. Bruce. Continuing on our way we stumbled (yeah, right) across the Tui Brewery at Mangatainoka and just had to stop and have a sample before continuing on thru the orchards in and around Havelock North (wonder if they took as long to change their name as Palmerston North did, as there is a Havelock on the south island as well), and past some of the north island's vineyards, rolling into Napier in the early afternoon. Napier suffered an earthquake in the early 1930's which destroyed the entire town which was then rebuilt in the style of the times and as such "The Art Deco Capital of the World", as some call it today was born...we took the opportunity to cook ourselves another meal in the Napier YHA kitchen since it wasn't overly busy and then enjoyed some quiet time sitting on the beach and watching the waves.....
